About Charles Willis-Owen

Charles benefited from a first-class medical education at Oxford University between 1994 and 2000. He went on to work as a junior doctor in the Oxford region, then moved to the prestigious North West Thames training program to specialise in orthopaedics. He is dual-qualified in both orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine and is both a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a Member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, so he can offer the best of both specialities. During his six-year training program, Charles secured a year-long fellowship at Sportsmed SA the top sports clinic in South Australia. In this extraordinary year, he learned from some of the worlds best sports knee and hip surgeons and has adopted many of the techniques used in Australia's most successful sports medicine clinic.

He completed his training in 2011 and spent his first six months of consultancy performing major trauma surgery at St Mary's hospital in central London before moving to South East London for four years where he honed his skills and developed his reputation in the cut and thrust of London. Charles then relocated to Bournemouth and Poole to give his 3 young children the best quality of life the UK has to offer.

Both during his training and since becoming a consultant Charles has been active in clinical research and academia. He has published over 40 international papers and presented at scientific meetings all around the world. He also provides advice to the orthopaedic industry and is developing his own surgical device.

Passionate about all forms of sport, Charles has represented Great Britain in the cycling World Championships, competed at international elite level for marathon running as well as at university and regional levels for cycling, triathlon, and rowing. Having suffered almost every running injury going he has a unique insight into the problems of athletes at all levels and the frustration that injury can cause.

In the past, he has provided medical care for competitors at Silverstone racing circuit and Twickenham Rugby Football Ground. He also enjoys snow skiing, motor racing and scuba diving.

He is proud to have treated a variety of high-profile athletes some of who have going to be the World's best after their injury and his treatment.

When not operating, or doing sports Charles loves nothing more than spending time with his wife and 3 young kids.
